
The VOIDCORE is an in-development template for TTRPG (tabletop roleplaying game) development. As a designer of a lot of different original rulesets with unique mechanics, I’ve taken a publishing hiatus to invest time in building this framework early so that I can spend less time later fumbling with the initial stages of production for every single game project. The idea is to get more games out faster while assuring and improving quality.
Because many of my game ideas extend beyond the physical tabletop, the “tabletop” in TTRPG doesn’t necessarily describe my games anymore. I’ve been looking for a new name to encapsulate my broad landscape of games. At this time, I’ve chosen the term “VOIDCORE game” because it ties together my own branding as Dark Lavender Void with an important allusion to Vincent Baker’s concept of the Fruitful Void: the unmentioned themes of a game that make up its essential core. Even if I throw away the dice, the pens, and the paper, this principle of the Fruitful Void remains at the atomic core of what I feel my games should be.
